The very first thing on your list should be to start with the cleanest system possible. By cleanest, I mean rid yourself of
unnecessary garbage running in the background. There's all type of trash running
around, but the first step should be the next step. A little time spent here,
and you will be rewarded with a better play experience, and a cleaner system.
Adware, Spyware, Malware (and every other ware slowing down your
system)
This should be first on your long list of things to do. Most adware can be
removed with
Ad-Aware
PE. If you don't have an Anti-Virus utility, then hop over to Grisoft, then
download and use their
free program.
System Services
There's several ways to go about increasing system resources by eliminating Windows Services not normally used during gameplay. These services can include
Fast User Switching Compatibility, Windows Time, Help and Support, and so on.
One way to do it is to create a hardware profile as I've outlined
here. This is an excellent choice if you plan on just playing Battlefield 2 during your
current Windows session.
Another way is to create a Windows Services Batch, as outlined on this
page.
