Mozilla Thuderbird:: Reclaim Your Inbox!

Mozilla Thunderbird

Thunderbird is Mozilla's answer to Outlook Express and more. It has one of the smartest, free SPAM busting features along with a host of others. Some of the neatest features come by the way of extensions. Think of them as plug-ins for Thunderbird.

The extension Forumzilla for example, allows you to read news and blog feeds right in your e-mail client window:

Features Worth Mentioning:

  • Built-in Spell Checking

  • Runs on runs on Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000 and XP, Linux, MacOS X, OS/2 and Solaris.

  • Thunderbird does not allow scripts to run by default.

  • Add Themes as you would to FireFox or Mozilla.

  • Once Thunderbird learns what's junk, and what's not, soon your inbox will be filled with only wanted e-mail. Choose to have SPAM sent directly to your Trash or Junk Folder.

  • Newsreader

I tested this on one of my most littered e-mail addresses and I must say, after just 5 days, it's up to about a 90%+ accuracy and getting better everyday. Just like any other Junk Mail Filter, there are times when it inadvertently trashes good mail. In this case, just label it as "not junk".

On a normal day, I receive about 150 pieces of crap. Today it trapped all but 6. Not a problem.
