Freeing Up Resources For Gaming
This is an alternate method to using a batch file to start and stop XP Services. First right-click My Computer on the Desktop, and choose Properties. Click the Hardware tab. Highlight your current Profile. Choose Copy. Name your Profile. In this example, I chose Gaming.
Now, let's move over to Services. Control Panel ==> Administrative Tools ==> Services For each service you want disabled on your Gaming Profile, right-click the service and choose Properties. Click The Log On Tab. Highlight the "Gaming" profile and choose Disable.

Do this for each service you don't want starting for that profile. When starting Windows, you'll be prompted to choose a profile, and the time in which you have to do this is determined by changing "Select the first profile listed if I don't select a profile in" You can position each profile using the up and down arrows. (above) Be smart about it!! Don't stop services necessary to keep Windows running. Or kill services needed for network gaming! You can also create a batch file, but I prefer this method.
